the GUI is called "ase-gui", and there is no need to modify anything.
Probably you have installed the incorrect pygtk - in has to be
all-in-one version (check the website).
Create the shortcut on the desktop to C:\Python27\Scripts\ase-gui.bat -
this is the ase-gui launcher.
