My understanding is that you have installed GPAW successfully but some
tests fails, is that right?

If so, as it is hinted in the errors in the tests, your ASE version is
too old: AFAIK you need the 3.13 which you can install through pip for
instance:

    pip install ase --pre --user

or 

    pip3 install ase --pre --user

or that you can get directly from git.
